Ryan is an aquatic ecologist interested in how ecosystems change over time. His Ph.D. research at the University of Wisconsin (graduating Spring 2014) focuses on food web subsidies, ecosystem metabolism, early warning indicators of regime shifts, and extreme events in ecological time series. At Rutgers, he will be studying long-term dynamics of marine communities in North America, including the frequency and consequences of temperature-driven changes in community composition.
